Earthquake claims man’s life in Vietnamese city

The earthquake that rocked Ho Chi Minh City Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a 48-year-old man after a wooden plank dropped on his head, a city hospital said.
The man, a resident of the city’s District 3, was rushed to Gia Dinh People’s Hospital with serious brain injury where he succumbed 8 p.m.

Relatives of the ill-fated man said he was at home when the quake struck and sent furniture tumbling.

The quake measured 5.5 on the Richter scale and is thought to be an aftershock of an earlier tremor in the morning, centered some 100km off the coast of Vung Tau city, which shook the southern provinces.
