My dear, the neighbours have not lit the lamps in their houses
I will come to you after finishing the chew in my mouth
Living in the same village are you and me
Going by the same road, why bother being in a hurry
 
Somehow, I think I have heard from them the faint rumour
That they know we are somewhat having something… together
Who raises the winds so the areca nuts become rather few
And the betel leaves are damaged because of the heavy dew

Chờ em ăn giập miếng giầu em sang
Đôi ta cùng ở một làng
Cùng chung một ngõ vội-vàng chi anh
Em nghe họ nói mong-manh
Hình như họ biết chúng mình với nhau.
Ai làm cả gió đắt cau,
Mấy hôm sương muối cho trầu đổ non.
