I knew this website long ago, and it's really a good one. Another site that might interest you is www.ibiblio.org/gutenberg. This site was created from 1971 by contribution from thousands of volunteers and so far it contains some 10,000 etext of books in public domain (it means that these books are not copy right protected, most of them are classical works published for the first time before 1923 (remember well this date) so don't expect to find here recent best-sellers like Harry Potter's volumes or even more ancient works which unfortunately appeared after 1923 (absence of Gone with the wind, most of best work of Hemingway, no trace of Agatha Christie, ). In contrast, if you go well with classical literature, the paradis is widely opened indeed. Best work of Scott, of Jane Austen, of Bronte Sisters, Jack London, Stevenson, Poe,O.Henry... are in reach and it's for free. The greatest disadvantage of this site is the presentation of text. The first time you open or download sth from gutenberg, you are likely to be disappointed by the unwelcome appearance of rude text which reduce sensibly your enthusiasm. In that case try www.blackmask.com. Here etext are already divided into different genres to simplify your search. The presentation is far more friendly and you can even give your commend for any book. Last important thing: if you don't have much time to search and read online, gutenberg project has selected a collection of their best texts which you can of course download freely. I've done it and I've really found that such a boring and terrible thing as learning this damned English can be damnedly interesting.

Something to add. In your search for free books online, take your time to visite www.archive.org. This is a great free database containing not only texts but also audio books and even motion pictures. Here you find collection of Gutenberg project I have previously mentioned, and even larger collection of scanned books (Millionbook project, if not as important as boasts its name, contains at least more than 14,000 books - not too bad, isn't it?). The quality of these files is sometimes lamentable, I have to acknowledge, and their volume are often enormous, but they are FREE!!!
